The newly inaugurated President Hae-yong Seo, a member of the Class of ’82 from the Department of Civil Engineering, has long been respected within the alumni community for his strong leadership and inclusiveness. Notably, instead of traditional congratulatory flower wreaths, attendees contributed rice wreaths, adding deeper meaning to the event. A total of 50 sacks of rice were donated to the student council to support the university’s “1,000-won breakfast program” for students, while the remaining rice will be distributed to local welfare organizations, reflecting the association’s commitment to social contribution.
In his inaugural address, President Seo stated, “I feel a great sense of responsibility in taking on the role of the 20th President of the Alumni Association,” adding, “I will work to create a platform of unity that brings together our 90,000 alumni and serve as a strong pillar to help our alma mater grow into a globally prestigious university.”
The outgoing 19th President Se-yong Kim was awarded a plaque of appreciation in recognition of his contributions to strengthening the foundation of the alumni association and supporting the development of the university during his tenure.
The ceremony also featured celebratory programs such as violin performances and vocal recitals, serving as an occasion to reinforce solidarity among the 90,000 alumni. In addition, the event included a segment to encourage alumni candidates running in the June 3 local elections, highlighting the role and influence of INU alumni in contributing to regional development.
