INU Science Outreach Program – Integrated Korean Language Course for Overseas Koreans

The Institute for Gifted Science Education at Incheon National University (Director: Professor Ki-soon Han of the Department of Creativity Development) announced that, in collaboration with Incheon Metropolitan City, it will operate the “2026 Korean Language Study Group – INU Science Outreach Program” to support overseas Koreans in improving their Korean language proficiency and adapting to local communities.

This program is conducted in partnership with the Overseas Koreans Welcome Center and is designed for adult overseas Koreans. It is a convergence-based educational program that enhances practical Korean communication skills through science experiments as a learning medium.

The course is divided into beginner and intermediate levels. The beginner course will run every Wednesday from April 8 to May 27, 2026, and the intermediate course every Friday from April 10 to May 29, 2026, with each consisting of eight sessions. All classes will be conducted in person at the conference room of the Overseas Koreans Welcome Center.

The main educational focus is “learning Korean speaking skills through science experiments.” Participants will naturally acquire Korean e-x-p-r-e-s-s-i-o-ns while engaging in hands-on experimental activities and will strengthen their communication skills through collaborative problem-solving processes. In particular, the program aims to increase learning immersion through context-based instruction grounded in scientific concepts.

This initiative is jointly promoted by Incheon Metropolitan City and the Industry–Academic Cooperation Foundation of Incheon National University. The city is responsible for participant recruitment and providing the educational environment, while the Institute for Gifted Science Education oversees program development and course delivery.

A representative from the institute stated, “By utilizing science as a universal language, we designed this program to help overseas Koreans learn Korean more easily and with greater interest,” adding, “We hope this initiative will serve as an opportunity to enhance their adaptation to Korean society and expand their participation in local communities.”

The INU Science Outreach Program is funded by the Science and Technology Promotion Fund, the Lottery Fund, and Incheon National University, and carries out various science culture outreach initiatives with support from the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity.

Further information and registration details for the Science Outreach Program and other related initiatives are available on the Institute’s website (http://www.inuisge.kr).
